Ala Moana's First Condotel

The Ala Moana Hotel is located right next to the Ala Moana Shopping Center (East/Diamond Head side of the mall) on Atkinson Drive. The building is comprised of 1180 units and was the first condotel (able to use it for residential use or to put it in the hotel rental pool which will rent it out on a nightly basis) in the Ala Moana neighborhood. The unit break down is:
- Studios: 246 - 297 square feet (lanais are approximately 48-56 sq ft)
- 1 Bedrooms: 503 - 581 square feet (lanais are approximately 56-96 sq ft)
- 2 Bedrooms: The building has a few 2 bedroom units on the 33rd and 34th floor (over 1900 sq ft)
The building was built in 1970 and went through a condo conversion that sold the units in 2005. Ala Moana Hotel has two towers, the Waikiki Tower (the main tower which is 36 stories) and the Kona tower (smaller portion which is 13 stories). The building features secured entry, luggage check-in, a business center, restaurants, souvenir stores, conference/meeting rooms, activity/tour booking center, and the only Starbucks on the island to serve Alcohol. It also has a bridge that connects it directly to Ala Moana Shopping Center. For amenities, there is a fitness center, pool, sauna, and steam room.
Overall, the Ala Moana hotel is in a very convenient location and directly attached to the mall with just a short commute to Waikiki or the beach. The building doesn't have parking deeded to the units but it does allow nightly rentals. The maintenance fee is on the high side, but keep in mind that it covers everything (Cable TV, Electricity, Hot Water, Internet Service, Sewer, Water).
