Ae'o is Howard Hughes' third tower in Ward Village Kakaako - a 60-acre master planned community located in the urban core of Honolulu. The building was designed by Bohlin Cywinski Jackson (BCJ). The tower was completed in 2018 and initially had pre-sales back in 2016. In an effort to integrate the deep seated stories, culture, and forces that gave life to this special land, BCJ worked with Hawaiian culture experts and historians to design a building that ties into our island history. Ae'o in Hawaiian means Hawaiian Stilt Bird and this building pays honor to the wind. The parking structure facade above Whole Foods symbolize the prevailing trade winds that frequent the islands and gave the Ae'o flight. The building also has these jut-out notches that angle outwards and is what they call the "wings." This is done so that units in the middle of the building will have a jut-out area that would allow for a view of the ocean (a view they normally wouldn't have since Ae'o has no lanais and either faces east/Diamond Head or west/ewa). The ground floor retail is the flagship Whole Foods Market and is the largest store on the island. On the ground floor there is also a Japanese Restaurant Rinka which just moved from the Ala Moana/Holiday Mart Neighborhood. There will also be a medical clinic downstairs opening later in 2019.

Ae'o will have 466 units total and will have a wide variation of floor plans. There will be no townhomes, flats, or villa units in this building. All the units will be in the tower and will be either a studio, 1, 2, or 3 bedroom unit. In the tower towards the top will be several variations of Penthouses which will have higher ceilings will be about 1'2'' higher than the normal unit which has a ceiling height of 8'8''.

The residences in Aeo will have 8'8'' ceiling heights and 10' ceilings in the penthouses. The building is a LEED certified building and features double paned glass, central AC, LED lighting, and on-site security. Inside the units you can find engineered wood flooring in the living area/kitchens and premium wool carpet in the bedroom. The bathrooms have polished-quartz counters, lighted mirrored vanity cabinet, make-up mirror, and optional upgraded toto washlets. In the kitchen there will be polished-quartz counter tops, European cabinetry with 5 different color schemes, Bosche kitchen appliances, and optional motorized window shades. Early modern color schemes (glossy enameled red, yellow, and blue) were picked only by pre-sale individuals early on during sales. Eventually they stopped taking custom orders and either put a light or dark color scheme shown below.
Residents are able use the luxury appointed guest suites for visitors and have on-site guest parking. The best feature is direct access to Whole Foods Market which specializes in organic food and features a very nice bar with various food options throughout the store.
Ae'o will have a 7th floor amenity deck. There will be two pools (one lap swim pool and one leisure pool). There will also be cabanas and outdoor dining pavilions with bbq areas, a state-of-the-art gym, outdoor fitness area, generous outdoor children's play area, steam room & sauna, karaoke room, dog run area, private party rooms, and guest suites to host visiting friends and family. On the top floor, there will be a Sky Terrace where residents can enjoy that penthouse view.
Ae'o will be located at 1001 Queen Street and will be located on the mountain side of the Ward Consolidated Movie Theaters. Right next to Ae'o on the west/ewa side is Aalii. Ae'o is considered a third row Ward Village building (more of a entry level building) and is considered a mid luxury tower.
